他的门徒乘仙鹤而去，将道长的草药和菊花酒分派给众人。同时，把他们带到山上去。喝了菊花酒及草药，灾祸之神就不敢接近他们了。
当灾祸之神到来村庄时，发现村里的人都不见了。它发现人们都跑到山上去了，就赶紧奔到山的那边去。可是，它是怎么也接近不了。后来还被道长的门徒刺伤。
从此以后，每到农历九月初九，人们都会到山上去或出外游玩，以避开灾祸之神。谈到九月初九，最为人知道的还是从九月初一到初九庆祝的九皇爷诞。这在马来西亚各个地区都很多人庆祝。
